“The justification for a college is that it preserves the connection between knowledge and the zest for life by uniting the young and the old in the imaginative consideration of learning”.
A.N. Whitehead (Aims of Education)
Based on its classical roots, our curriculum focuses on a broad base of learning within the languages, humanities, sciences and mathematics. Not only is such a program rigorous, it is a course of study that promotes personal growth and development while refining critical-thinking and communication skills. Classes are small and led by educators who are expert in their field; not only teachers but also community leaders from various disciplines. Authentic hands-on learning is a cornerstone of our curriculum, and community partnerships are key in the personalization of each student’s program of studies. At Alcuin, the year commences with the clear articulation of your student’s unique strengths and abilities, while focusing on personal preferences and areas of interest. Approaches to learning are not pre-determined and not prescriptive in nature. Rather, we have a firm commitment to an emergent curriculum that nurtures individual progress; truly a curriculum designed with you! In order to foster such a high level of personalization, the liberal arts classroom is small, with no more than 15 students per class.
Our focus on authentic, experiential learning opportunities enables our educators to get to know each and every one of their students and to afford a unique level of interaction, feedback and guidance. Join us – we can offer your child an education like no other: authentic learning for the 21st century.
